HR: Economy Weakens Employee Engagement

According to a survey of U.S. employers by Quantum Workplace, two-thirds of companies surveyed reported a decline in employee engagement from a year earlier. The study examines employee satisfaction levels looking at "intent to stay" and whether or not an employee "is an advocate" for the employer.

Comment: The expectation is of many organizations is that employees surviving the economic challenges of today should be more -- not less -- appreciative of their employers. At the same time, this information demonstrates how important it is to make sure that HR efforts are focused on existing employees -- not just on reductions, etc. In the typical cost-cutting environment of today's economic challenges, organizations might want to re-consider decisions to cut programs (training, leadership development, organizational culture, etc.) that might be needed just as much now as during growth times.
