HR: Screening Case at the Supreme Court

An interesting connection to a recent post of an accreditation process for background screeners, there is now a case before the Supreme Court involving claims of background screening.  The case, Nelson vs. NASA, involves claims by a number of NASA contractors who are claiming the background checks "invaded their privacy."  There are claims that background checks included questions that were completely unrelated to performance issues -- and included questions related to medical, financial, even sexual behavior, issues.

Comment:  I'm in favor of an accreditation program for background screeners.  Hopefully it will increase the overall quality and professional conduct of the process.  Unfortunately, it will not (and probably cannot) eliminate completely inappropriate questions -- we still see it all the time in the interview process despite knowing how it should be done correctly.  Just have to keep hoping...
